I totally love these. There's a sense of a larger story behind them, but they work on their own. I like that elliptical feel to them, actually. We get he's come back to life just on the basis of his observations. The fifteen minutes staring at a mango - that was fantastic. But I do want to know all the details and circumstances anyway. :)
