Drabble: Terra d'Ombra
It occurred to me that I never put this up here, so for completeness' sake...
Title: Terra d'Ombra
Author:
concertigrossi
Rating: G
Word count: 100
Character: Weatherby Swann
Challenge: Childhood, on the
potc100 community.
He loved to paint.
Not just the faithful rendering of a scene, but the peace and the quiet as he worked; the halcyon afternoons when the golden sunlight turned the air into warm honey, and where the stillness was broken only by the perfumed breeze through the garden and the desultory meanderings of the bumblebees.
"It won't be so bad, Weatherby," said his older sister. "They need painters in the Army, you know, for intelligence. To show terrain and fortifications... you could really distinguish yourself!"
But when he packed his things to go, he left the paint-boxes and brushes behind.
