This was positively lovely. Smart comment on society, fascinating look at how Jack dealt with the long term. Really, really effective descriptions of his attempts at death. And the hands down best explanation of how Jack got from Jack to face of Boe.

Edited to Add: I forgot. By the way, excellent use of a Slaughterhouse Five reference in there. Went well with the themes of the story.
