I first heard about the Haiti quake when it hit and sort of blew it off: 7.0 isn't THAT big, bla bla y bla.

Oh yes, actually, it is.

I can't even imagine. I don't want to. If I didn't have kids, I'd be glued to the TV in full-scale disaster junkie mode, but I don't dare. My four-year-old doesn't need to know about devastating earthquakes yet.

For those of you interested in donating, Doctors Without Borders is an excellent charity, and, most importantly, they were already in-country when the quake hit, so they've got boots on the ground right now.
