Drabble: Caveat Empire

Characters: Cutler Beckett

He sat under the attic window, with his father’s atlas, and pored over its painted pages.   Technically, he didn’t need this bolt-hole anymore: his brothers would never torment him again, after his latest revenge, but he enjoyed this sequestration.
His fingers traced the boundaries off to places exotic and unknown.  France and Spain.  The Habsburg Dominions.  The Ottoman Empire.  Africa.  The Mughal Empire and China.  The empty, underutilized Americas.  He hated the voids; there must be something there, after all!  And sometimes, he felt, the borders were lacking in symmetry.
No matter.  Once he grew up, he would redraw them.

Absolute Beckett!! Thanks so much for writing this insightful and spot-on little ficlet! You captured Beckett perfectly well! ^____^

I only have one demand request: Could you please elaborate on this?

Technically, he didn’t need this bolt-hole anymore: his brothers would never torment him again, after his latest revenge

Please? *puppy eyes*

Thank you! :)

Em... we'll see. I DO have to deal with a lot of Beckett coming up, so it may happen. Seriously, I didn't mean to write three chapters of Norrington misery, but if I get to the point where I need backstory, that's what happens. :)

I love fics about Beckett's childhood. I don't think it's something author's elaborate on as much as they could. I know I'm guilty because it's hard for me to picture Cutler as a child. I have to agree with Telera, this should so be elaborated on.
Didn't you say once that you didn't like Beckett? You write him very well

Nope, I don't. I'm setting him up as the Villain for my Big Fic. But thank you! I'm glad he sounds right.

If you guys are the Queens of Cutlerian Darkness, then I am the Empress of Norringtonian Light. :)

It may be expanded on.. it depends on how much backstory I need on him once I start having the heavy-duty scenes between him and my OFC.

Oh... Beckett as the villain, and I suppose Norrington as the hero! That should be the best!
(I don't like Beckett either. He's just adorable.)
