The doctor had told Pappa that winter sea-bathing might help Mamma get better, and so they’d all left for Scarborough the very next morning.

She’d thought she knew everything about the sea, but her jaw dropped, as she stared at the crashing waves.  Such beauty!  Such power!  The cold, salty air swirled around her; to her, that scent would forevermore embody the promise of adventure and discovery.  She stood on the edge of England; no more land until Denmark.  Denmark!  Perhaps a little Danish girl was on the opposite beach, staring back at her?

Her books were nothing to this.

I love this.

The cold, salty air swirled around her; to her, that scent would forevermore embody the promise of adventure and discovery.

This sentence made me yearn for the sea... *is sadly landlocked*

Thanks!

Me too! :) I made it to the Pacific a few weeks ago, and it brought it all back.

Love your icon, btw. :)
