It's the WORST. I'm sweating out the scene where she meets Beckett for the first time. I have to have the small-talk because, well, that's what you do when you meet somebody for the first time and are in the presence of other people, thus preventing you from launching straight into the "Dude, we're not engaged!" conversation.
The "Dude, we're not engaged!" conversation. Yeah, can't say I'm envying you much on this one. I hate small talk as well. Maybe you should whittle it waaaay down, or cut it out altogether? ::is despicably lazy::
Doing my best, believe me, to keep it to a minimum, but sometimes it's just unavoidable.
Actually, I'm not seeing the actual "Not engaged!" conversation as being too bad... he's had his people do enough research about her that he's not expecting it, but when it does happen, he's not inordinately surprised.
I couldn't remember. You're one of the few writers I know who'll write scenes and share them as you go, taking our feedback and assimilating it, rather than waiting to post individual completed chapters. So I figured you must be waiting until it's done before publicly posting any of it.

Really? Interesting... I figured a lot of people did it that way.
It probably has something to do with my thing for revisions. A lot of times, I'll come out with a bit that a lot of other stuff depends on, if only to establish the feeling of a relationship. Minor though it may be, I may have to change things later on because of it. Once, I threw out three early chapters of an X-Files fic because I really wanted the last scene to play out a certain way.
(Also, feedback. You're not the only feedback whore around here. :) )

Date: 2007-10-15 09:57 pm (UTC)This is a scene in the Big Fic, so yea. But only once it's finished, and then I'll post chapters weekly, because I'm evil that way. :)
Why?

Date: 2007-10-15 09:58 pm (UTC)Nope, a BRAND NEW small talk scene.
Part one, chapter three. After that, I think we'll be done with small talk for a while. I hope.
